Waterfowl waste is a source of high nutrients in ponds.  If large numbers of ducks or geese visit your pond this winter, carefully monitor water quality this spring as water temperatures rise.

High nutrient levels produce dense plankton blooms and stimulate vegetation growth.  Excess nutrients can cause serious issues
such as diminished oxygen.  If this occurs, you may need aeration to prevent a fish kill.  These conditions occur during warmer months.
If your water turns a rich green or “pea soup” color with visibility 12 inches or less, contact a pond consultant immediately?
