Are You Reading the Numbers on a Bag of Fish Food?

There are a lot of numbers and fine print on the tag of a fish food bag.  The number you should scrutinize is protein percentage.  The most important ingredient is fish meal, if you want to grow large fish.

Many products are grain-based.  They will promote growth, especially in catfish, but not at the rate of brands with fish meal.  For instance, Purina Aqua Max 500 or 600 contains fish meal.  Studies reveal bluegill can gain one pound after consuming 1.5 pounds of this valuable supplement.  Imagine growing two-pound bluegill in three to four years.
