Standard water testing should be on the list of items you review during the annual wellness checkup of your pond.

Alkalinity must be within certain parameters to achieve successful fertilization.  The pH significantly impacts aquatic environments.  If you’re considering a lake survey this year, hardness can affect electrofishing results.
